      Recent feature releases

Optimize your application portfolio with cost insights

To support the rationalization initiatives that many organizations worldwide are currently focusing on, we have added functionality that allows you to manage application total cost of ownership (TCO) in your workspace. This helps you gain visibility into TCO, identify high-cost areas, and prioritize rationalization candidates to reduce spend in alignment with IT and business goals. The following added capabilities enable you to capture the allocation of costs, view their breakdowns by organization or business capability, and directly monitor TCO evolution in the executive dashboard:

      • An optional meta model extension that can be activated in the administration area, extending the application fact sheet to capture licensing, maintenance, and support costs in a consistent and structured way.

      • Automatic aggregation of the above inputs into an application's TCO using preconfigured calculations that can be adapted to reflect your organization's cost model. Similarly, two preconfigured and adaptable calculations automatically allocate the application TCO to the related business capabilities and organizations.

      • Enhanced landscape report settings to allocate selected costs by clusters (e.g., per business capability or organizational unit), helping to identify high-cost areas. These are directly visible in two new pre-configured reports, the "Application Total Cost of Ownership per Business Capability" landscape report and the "Application Total Cost of Ownership and TIME Classification" landscape report.

      • Cost evolution KPIs in the architecture executive dashboard to give IT and business leaders a real-time view of total IT spending, savings progress, and investment alignment across the portfolio (e.g., the application TCO, maintenance/support/licensing cost, and their share of the TCO).

Together, these capabilities provide the visibility and control needed to connect architecture decisions with financial outcomes, empowering teams to manage and reduce costs and accelerate innovation and transformation.

Move to a new user authentication service before May 15, 2026

As announced in July and October, we've modernized our authentication service to make user login more convenient and support additional single sign-on (SSO) setups. A new self-service SSO configuration is now available.

If you leverage SSO, please activate and configure one of the two new service options: just authentication or authentication and authorization before May 15, 2026.

Your benefits from the new service include:

      • Modern authentication technologies, such as OpenID Connect (OIDC), to create a seamless user login experience by passing the user authentication from an identity and access management system to other applications.

      • Configuration of multiple identity providers (IDPs) and single sign-on (SSO) solutions for different legal or regional entities of large organizations (e.g., one workspace with two different SSO configurations or one SAP LeanIX account with different SSO configurations for a live and a sandbox workspace.

      • Change SSO configurations in self-service without contacting our support team.

Don't worry—nothing will change if you don't use an SSO solution for your workspace login (authentication with username and password). Additionally, if you were onboarded to SAP LeanIX after July 2025, you don't need to take any action, as we have already transitioned you to the new service.

On the SAP Help portal, you can find configuration guides with examples for multiple identity providers such as Microsoft Entra ID and Okta.

Accelerate transformation handling with the redesigned transformation explorer

We have released a redesigned Transformation Explorer that streamlines transformation maintenance and planning, now available in all workspaces with SAP LeanIX Architecture and Roadmap Planning.
In addition to the recently introduced "Inventory Tools" menu, it is accessible centrally from the “More” menu in the main navigation, with the intention of becoming the single future access point.

Based on your feedback, the new experience introduces richer capabilities and a usability-improving look and feel, which includes:

      • Smarter filtering and sorting: Find what you need by filtering on applications, fact sheet names, or transformation types, and with a more prominent transformation type filter. Sort the resulting transformations by completion date to keep track of progress.

      • Deeper insights: See application names, user groups, and business capabilities directly to support error analysis and quality assurance, and access more details tailored to each transformation type. Transformation statuses will appear in text, rather than icons, for improved clarity.

      • Easy comparisons between transformations: Take better decisions with fewer clicks.

      • Multi-editing and bulk execution: Manage several transformations inline, using familiar inventory-style editing, and execute multiple transformations simultaneously from a bulk action menu.

      • Milestone filtering: Inspect progress, validate planning, and analyze execution status tied to milestone structures

The renewed transformation explorer aims to save you time, reduce manual work, and give you complete control over your transformations. Please note that it has replaced the old transformation explorer.

      What is next?

We will continue to enhance the transformation explorer in the coming months. Selected improvements include, bookmarking of filters for instant access to your most frequently used views, and integration with the inventory search for seamless workflows. As stated above, we will also remove the link to the transformation explorer from the "Inventory Tools" menu eventually.

Send email notifications via Microsoft Exchange Online

To increase user trust in the authenticity of email notifications sent from an SAP LeanIX workspace, we've added a new method to send emails via Microsoft Exchange Online, in addition to SMTP.

By using this option, all notification emails (e.g., those triggered by a broken quality seal, surveys, or automations) will be sent through your organization's account and will appear as internal emails in users' email clients. This setup utilizes modern OAuth 2.0 authentication.

If you have already connected an Exchange Online account via our SMTP setup (using username and password), please move it to the Exchange Online setup before March 31, 2026, as Exchange Online will discontinue support for basic authentication.

You don't need to act if you're using the SMTP service with any other mail provider.

Leverage reference data on AI models from the catalog

In addition to the recently released AI Agent Hub and the optional “AI Governance & Adoption” meta model extension, we’ve started expanding the content of our reference catalog for IT components to include data on AI models, supporting your AI governance. Throughout the following months, you will find more and more recommended catalog items appearing with a new subtype, “AI Model, when creating IT component fact sheets from recommendations or linking them to the catalog. Leveraging this data, you can increase standardization and data quality and better identify where AI models are involved in your landscape.

Read the full announcement to see what this means for you, depending on whether the "AI Governance & Adoption" meta model extension is active in your workspace.

      Features in progress

Leverage auto-generated diagrams based on templates

Creating and managing the content of comprehensive free draw and data flow diagrams from scratch can be challenging and time-consuming. To help you become more efficient, we will offer the ability to automatically generate the most common architectural diagrams based on templates. These diagrams will be created directly from the data on the fact sheets in your inventory. This will help you accelerate building well-structured, recognizable, and compelling diagram layouts of your architecture. In the initial release, we plan for you to create diagram templates consisting of a base fact sheet type (e.g., application) and select relations and adjacent fact sheets (e.g., interfaces, drill-downs, dependencies, etc.) that you want to display. The template can then be saved and utilized when new diagrams are created. A good use case to leverage templates is when multiple diagrams with the same components need to be created and reviewed regularly between enterprise architects and business stakeholders.

We plan to make the first iteration available for free draw diagrams in January 2026 and expand functionalities related to data flow diagrams later.

Manage recommendations for applications on a fact sheet tab

We believe that getting fact sheets into your workspace is just the beginning - ensuring your data is of high quality is crucial to making reliable decisions. We aim to support you in achieving a higher overall data quality by analyzing the data in your inventory and providing actionable recommendations. For this, we are expanding and bundling recommendations for applications: Already today, you can leverage AI-assisted descriptions and receive contextual recommendations for relations between applications and business capabilities. With the release of the new AI agent extension, this now includes the new application subtype AI Agent. To consolidate all recommendations in one place, we will introduce a new tab on the fact sheet details page by the end of the year, which will summarize all recommendations. This enables you to view and manage all recommendations in one place, increasing efficiency.

Discover and manage MCP servers to avoid duplication and complexity

Companies use the complementary Agent2Agent (A2A) and Model Context Protocol (MCP) standards to build robust AI agents. The former provides agent-to-agent communication and discoverability, while the latter enables agent-to-tool communication, standardizing how AI agents interact with tools, APIs, and resources to obtain information. With a planned release in December, we will offer the ability to discover MCP servers registered in the Microsoft MCP server registry, providing a comprehensive view of the AI agents' architectural setup. This allows you to establish visibility into existing agents and MCP servers, thereby avoiding duplication and complexity.

Create and manage KPIs more efficiently

We are undertaking a major effort to enhance the usage of KPIs within your workspace, with the goal of creating KPIs more easily, tailoring them to your custom needs, and maintaining a consistent approach throughout your workspace. In January 2026, we plan to launch a new, guided, no-code UI in the administrator section of your workspace to create KPIs. Knowledge of JSON will no longer be required to create your own KPIs, thereby removing a current hurdle. To create KPIs, we will also introduce percentage calculations and advanced filtering, wh

ich is closely aligned with the inventory filtering logic. All existing KPIs (JSON-based or filter-based) will remain fully available and functional.

In a second step, we will unify the way you create and manage KPIs across your workspace. This will replace the current two logics that exist in parallel for general KPIs and executive KPIs. This will ensure consistency, simpler training, and less cognitive load for users. The executive KPIs on the Architecture Executive Dashboard will be migrated into the same updated KPI area in the administrator section for a unified experience. Additionally, we will enrich the functionality further by including permissions, display settings, and other metadata controls.
