Product update - July 2025
We're excited to send this first edition of our newsletter in its new format. It unifies notifications of our continuous release announcements and the monthly newsletter into a single channel. Thus, it replaces the former monthly announcements with an outlook into the next month, which is included below.
Contrary to plan and what we announced in June, we'll continue sending emails from updates@leanix.net and let you know again when we eventually move to a new sender email address under the sap.com domain.

EA Insights 2025 report published
Earlier this year, we surveyed 360 enterprise architects about their priorities, challenges, and perceptions of enterprise architecture within their organizations. The results report is now available for download.
Connecting the dots for the larger organization and demonstrating all the ways that good data and clear guidelines drive company performance and resilience is the best way for enterprise architects to deliver value and fulfill their strategic role within the company.
Key findings include:
Alarming 92% say enterprise architecture is perceived (totally or partly) as an administrative IT function.
In 85% of cases, EA is perceived as a governing function that controls technology use and investment.
51% report that reaching an architecture decision takes a month or more, a less than optimal outcome.
The survey shows that there is a way to change that. Good governance directly and positively affects the business partnership when decisions are made faster and are understandable to all stakeholders through transparent, easily accessible documentation.
Thank you to everyone who participated!

Navigate to many features from a new “More” item
On September 2, 2025, the fifth item in the main navigation will be renamed and enhanced from "Collaboration" to "More". It will serve as a central hub for key product areas, making them easier to locate and use. This new item will consolidate collaboration features, such as surveys and to-dos, with capabilities added over time and previously scattered throughout the workspace.
Additionally, we will restructure the header and menus on the inventory page to further streamline user interactions. These updates are designed to simplify navigation, making our powerful features more accessible and intuitive.
Access to the following features will now be placed under "More," and their previous navigation links will be removed:
The current capabilities: To-dos, surveys, and architecture decisions.
Presentations - Previously available from the reports and diagram overview pages.
Software bill of materials of discovered self-built software - Previously available via links on the inventory's side panel.
Reference catalog - Previously available via links on the inventory's side panel.
Portals - Previously available from the user menu at the top right.
Store - Previously available from the user menu at the top right.
In some of the above cases, the URL to the feature will change. However, all existing links will continue to work and automatically redirect to the updated locations.
This is what will be improved on the inventory page:
“Add Fact Sheet” button changed to “New Fact Sheet“ without a drop-down
A new drop-down menu “Inventory Tools” will help navigate to:
Inventory builder, including access to previous imports
Start AI prompt (only available to admin users)
Import from and export to Excel
Discovery inbox, including SAP landscape discovery and SaaS discovery
Transformation explorer
The overflow menu with the three dots will continue to contain actions for managing saved searches. Also, sharing will move in there from a separate button, and the entry “Configuration” will change to “Meta Model Configuration”.
While a few drop-down elements in the UI might initially look slightly different, rest assured that we'll unify their style in an upcoming update. We wanted to ensure that you could start enjoying the improved navigation experience right away.
Recent feature releases
Format descriptive text with rich-text and Markdown elements
The content of fact sheet descriptions and any other fields represented with text areas (string fields in the meta model configuration) can be formatted to make them more expressive by highlighting elements with bold and italic font styles. This addresses your feedback seeking flexibility in formatting options.
By using markdown or interacting with the new text formatting interface at the top of each text area, users can change the text appearance, add hyperlinks, structure content in ordered and unordered lists, and create hyperlinks. Markdown syntax is immediately applied while editing the text.

Capture SAP systems from the landscape discovery
In the configuration of the SAP landscape discovery, admins can decide to map SAP systems underpinning your applications with an optional system fact sheet type to bring additional details about the instances of production, testing, and similar systems into your inventory. Information captured on such fact sheets surfaces responsibilities and context, like the system instance type (e.g., on-premise, cloud) and SAP system number, which are relevant when planning and executing transformations. All of this applies to both production and non-production systems directly linked to your business applications.
Extensive system modeling guidelines in our documentation will help you understand how best to use this new fact sheet type for different scenarios, such as applications running on multiple systems with different leading products or various applications running on one system.
SAP system discovery brings system-level information relevant to ERP transformation use cases into workspaces as a dedicated fact sheet for clarity. We will reconcile this in the following weeks with our ServiceNow integration, which has been importing this information as deployments (an optional application fact sheet subtype) for compatibility with CSDM for some time. We enhance existing enterprise architecture use cases without intending to become a full-fledged CMDB. If you have a deployment subtype configured, we will send you an email with more updates on this matter in the next few weeks.

See transformations directly on fact sheets
Although business transformations are primarily undertaken in phases, they are continuous and have a broad scope of impacts on the architecture. For planning and executing them, involved stakeholders require both perspectives: an initiative overview and a view of the details right where they will happen.
To reflect this in workspaces with SAP LeanIX Architecture and Road Map Planning, we've brought the scheduled changes of transformations directly to the details page of fact sheets affected by a transformation. A "Scheduled change" indicator on each subsection highlights where impacts happen. When clicking on it, a side panel opens with detailed information on the attributes of the selected transformation. Similarly, if there are no transformations yet planned, you can initiate them through a new "Schedule Change" button without the need to head to the "Transformations" tab or an initiative.

Features in progress
Browse fact sheet hierarchies while editing relations
We'll increase the accuracy of selecting the correct related fact sheets—no more guessing or long list scanning. Multi-level hierarchies of fact sheets can make it complicated to pick the one you're looking for due to long, concatenated display names from the hierarchy. Similar naming components don't make it any easier.
To be released next week, an additional tree view in the edit mode of relations, next to the current list view, lets you traverse, expand, and collapse hierarchies to find a match quickly and with confidence. The higher levels are always in view without limiting readability.
On top of that, in the standard edit mode, you can add multiple relations simultaneously without opening the previously dedicated 'edit multiple' mode.

Sync Jira projects with initiatives in your workspace
In August, we'll introduce a new Jira integration that allows teams to connect initiative fact sheets directly with Jira work items across multiple instances. This setup makes it possible to automatically synchronize and aggregate status updates into a new "Agile tracking" tab on initiative fact sheets, supporting better project tracking and alignment with transformation progress and architecture goals.
With this integration, updates made in either SAP LeanIX or Jira are reflected every 30 minutes, providing a more accurate view of initiatives across your projects. By mapping relevant fields (string, number, and date types) and milestones and standardizing project structures, teams can reduce manual maintenance, create clearer links between strategic planning and execution, and streamline road map planning.
Note that this feature will first be available for Jira Cloud and workspaces with SAP LeanIX Architecture and Road Map Planning. Support for Jira on-premise environments is on our roadmap for later this year, as is making it available in all workspaces with the feature scope of the previous Jira integration version, which will remain available for now but will eventually be replaced.

Drill down to related fact sheets on landscape reports
It's a short message with a big impact. In September, drill-downs will be available in the landscape report. Similarly to matrix reports, you will have the option in the reports settings to select relations to visualize them on the report. Seeing the IT components posing an obsolescence risk to applications is just one of many ways to use this setting.

Discover extensions running in your SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry environment
The SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry runtime is a recommended way to run extensions to SAP applications and operate custom code in your SAP environment in compliance with the clean core approach. Extending the SAP landscape discovery in September to cover software running on SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry, will be another step toward discovering all SAP BTP Extensions.
After adding Cloud Foundry to the SAP landscape discovery configuration, results will automatically appear in the discovery inbox. From there, you can link them to existing or new application fact sheets, enriching the inventory.
